A road in Morrinsville was temporarily closed this morning after a vehicle hit a gas main.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said firefighters were called to the incident on Moorhouse Street at about 8.11am.

The road was closed between Anderson and Thames streets and crews were monitoring the situation, he said.

The local gas authority has been advised.

A police spokeswoman said emergency services were responding to the crash and no injuries have been reported.

At around 11am, Fire and Emergency said the road had reopened.

A staff member at Ezekiel Trust Community Kindergarten on Moorhouse St said it was closed today while Central Kids Kindergarten said it would continue caring for kids as usual as the business didn’t use gas.

A staffer at Redoubt Bar and Eatery on Thames St said she drove through the incident on her way to work and saw an ambulance, a police car, and fire truck with people running around the scene.

She didn’t think anyone was “severely injured” but said people were rushing to help.

She was unsure if the eatery was affected by the incident, and said staff hadn’t been informed of it yet.
